On Saturday, after the heavy rain in the Badi village, not a single thing in Sher Bahadur’s house was left behind. He and his family were only left with the clothes they were wearing, their other things including the house were washed away.
Women’s rights groups in Nepal have reported an increase of domestic violence, rapes and other kinds of abuse against women during the lockdown. There have also been reports of people dying of starvation.

At the beginning of this year 2020 we have embarked on a whole new project – a housing program for a village that for many years have suffered severely under the curse of the sex trade.
Out of Ashes has since December 2009 been working against child prostitution and trafficking together with Lighthouse Foundation Nepal (LHFN) to prevent and restore girls from being trafficked.
The primary goal of this project is to build a model village with earthquake-proof, environmentally friendly low-cost houses and to create local jobs and opportunities for the people in the community.
The global human trafficking harvests hundreds of thousands of victims each year, mainly due to poverty and hunger. Many parents and relatives see themselves even forced to sell their daughters to get an income and survive. It is a vicious circle and many traffickers thrive in this vile trade.
We believe that the only way to truly break the cycle of abused women and girls and create lasting change is to provide education through school and vocational training, so that new income opportunities are made possible.
